Mammuthus (Tjuk-Penh), the imaginative and work of Elli Schlunke, was a dual prizewinner at Arts Connect Inc’s 2015 Sculpture on the Edge exhibition at Spicers Tamarind in Maleny.
He is made from a recycled chook-pen and other wire meshes, some of which are scrunched up over a simple steel framework, with fur made out of stripped out, plastic-coated copper wires from about 2.5 kilometres of old power cords. Affectionately known as “Tjuki,” (pronounced Chooky) he is 60% adult life size, and took seven months to make.
Despite his size, he weighs less than 200 kg. He won two awards (a special Judges’ Award for Innovative Use of Materials, and the People’s Choice Award) at Arts Connect Inc’s 2015 Sculpture on the Edge exhibition.
