This years Marine Teachers Conference will be held at the South Pacific Resort Noosa in conjunction with the Marine Education Society of Australia conference from the 29th Sep to the 3nd October 2004. The conference will provide valuable experience and networking for marine educators, private and government agencies and industry stakeholders. It is also aimed at showcasing the terrific marine related training and education venues and activities that the Sunshine Coast has to offer.
The events key sponsors Wet Paper, Marine Teachers Association of Queensland, Maritime Safety Queensland, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Education Queensland and Yachting Queensland have ensured this years conference is better than ever and packed full of workshops, excursions and activities.
The Keynote address of the conference will be presented by Carly Bansemer on the topic of 'Grey Nurse Sharks in Australia'. The protection of endangered species of marine animals is a key aspect to marine education curriculum in Qld schools. Justin Marshall from the University of Queensland will also address the delegates at the conference dinner on the topic of Coral Bleaching.
A number of practical workshops will be conducted by Maritime Safety of Queensland , Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Davos Bait and Tackle, Queensland Water Police, Coast Guard Noosa, University of Queensland, Wet Paper, Yachting Queensland, Bureau of Meteorology and the Department of Primary Industries.
Field trips that have been planned for the conference include an exclusive behind the scenes visit to Underwater World, Bar Crossing excercises with Coast Guard Noosa, Seafood Preparation, and Surfing lessons with Wavesense
The conference is open to anyone involved in marine education and provides valuable industry and community links to teachers interested in getting into marine education.
