The Mary Valley Rattler is celebrating the first anniversary of the heritage rail experience's return to the tracks on Sunday 6th October with the launch of a new service and a birthday party that all are welcome to attend.

To celebrate the first anniversary, there will be the first running of the All Stations Train on Sunday 6th October. The train will leave Gympie at 10am and meander through the picturesque Mary Valley, including a stop at the heritage Dagun station, offering the popular local wine and cheese tastings. The train travels to Amamoor Station, where passengers can watch the fascinating process of the turning of the engine on the turntable.

A small number of seats are still available for the birthday service, including travelling in style in the First Class Car, with passengers enjoying a local cheese and wine offering as they travel in the iconic Club Car. Ticket prices are $59 for an adult ticket with First Class tickets at a cost of $110. Family tickets and concession pricing are also available.

In addition, a new 'Tasting Train' experience will be launched in November, highlighting Mary Valley's renowned food produce. The weekly service (every Tuesday) will include tastings on board the RM 76 railmotor, The Red Rocket and local food showcased at the various stops along the way. Gympie Region Food Ambassador, chef Matt Golinski will launch the Tasting Train on 12th November. The Red Rocket also runs out every Thursday for the Rattler Picnic Train service.

The heritage railway line dates back to the 1880s, when gold and agriculture opened up the Gympie region to a massive population increase. The service ran until the 1990s, when the Rattler was re-launched as a tourist train until it closed in 2012, due to the need for an upgrade of the line.

The Rattler got back on the rails last year, and has carried over 30,000 passengers since then, as well as doubling the number of operating days.

Initially, the Rattler operated three days a week, but with the popularity of the Mary Valley Rattler experience, that will soon be extended to six days, as well as regular added holiday trains and special event services, such as the recent deguSTATION event held as part of The Curated Plate food festival.
