Mayor to dedicate Lone Pine on Anzac Day
Caloundra City Mayor, Don Aldous, will attend the Anzac Day Dawn Service at Kawana Waters on Monday to take part in the dedication of a memorial pine tree which is a direct descendant of the original Lone Pine at Gallipoli.
Cr Aldous will join Kawana Waters RSL Sub Branch President Chas Hoepper and Major Kevin Grayson (Ret) to dedicate the Lone Pine Tree.
"It will be a great honour to officially dedicate this memorial to the Lone Pine Battle of Gallipoli in 1915," Cr Aldous said.
"This Lone Pine will stand as a symbol of the heroism and noble sacrifice that will be in the minds of all Australians on Anzac Day.
"It is a significant day for all of us - a day when we pause as a nation to remember the countless Australians who fought, and in many cases died, in the defence of the freedom that we all enjoy today.
"This pine tree, grown from the seeds of the Lone Pine Tree that gave its name to the battle at Gallipoli, will be planted here in remembrance of all those brave Australians.''
The dedication of the Lone Pine Tree will be part of the Anzac Day Ceremonies to be held at the Kawana War Memorial (adjacent to Kawana Surf Life Saving Club, Pacific Boulevard, Buddina).
People will gather for the Dawn Service at the surf club from 4.45am for coffee, before moving to the memorial at 5.20am.
