Do you have an interest in protecting and enhancing the natural beauty and unique character of the Maroochy River Foreshore?
Then don’t miss the final opportunity to have a say on Sunshine Coast Council’s Draft Maroochy River Foreshore Open Space Master Plan.
Come along to a “Meet us in the Park” community consultation session on Sunday 14 August from 9am to noon at Bradman Avenue, Maroochydore (opposite Swan Boat Hire) to review the draft plan and provide feedback in person.
Alternatively, you can review the draft master plan on council’s website and provide written feedback by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by mail to Sunshine Coast Council, Locked Bag 72, Sunshine Coast Mail Centre QLD 4560 by Friday 19 August 2011.
Division 8 Councillor Debbie Blumel said council had conducted an extensive consultation process to date and now the community had the opportunity to see the draft master plan and provide any feedback before it was finalised.
“The master plan will provide a framework for the detailed design, construction and refurbishment of key parkland elements, and a process of staged implementation over future years,” she said.
“The Maroochy River Foreshore is a significant environmental and community recreation area, so community input into its future is very important.
“Council commenced the first stage of community engagement to inform the master planning process for the Maroochy River Foreshore in January this year.
“The master plan aims to reflect the vision, priorities and community aspirations that emerged through this initial engagement process.
“It will inform council of the community's upgrade requirements for this precious river foreshore parkland.”
Along with protecting and enhancing the foreshore precinct, other key objectives of the Draft Maroochy River Foreshore Open Space Master Plan include:
• improving pedestrian / cycle access and connection between the river foreshore, open space and adjacent residential areas;
• providing safe crossing points, pedestrian refuges and all abilities access; and
• improving park amenity including picnic / BBQ shelters, seating and fishing areas, playgrounds and provision for passive and active recreation.
Council has scheduled a capital funding allocation of $1.2 million for construction over the next three years.
“I encourage the community to take this further opportunity to have their say on the future of this beautiful precinct,” Cr Blumel said.
“Based on community feedback council will finalise the master plan.
“I am committed to working towards meeting the infrastructure needs within my Division and will continue to ensure effective management of available funding in the interest of local people.”
