An annual event, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival literally takes over Australia's comedy capital, Melbourne, each autumn with an enormous program of stand-up comedy, cabaret, theatre, street performance, film, television, radio and visual arts. The Festival was launched in 1987 by Barry Humphries and Peter Cook. Twenty festivals later, with attendances of over 400,000, it has grown to be Australia's largest cultural event.
After being cooped up in the dark rooms of Melbourne for close to a month, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 's most adventurous (and bravest) comedians are chomping at the bit to break out from the barriers and hit the road for a whistle-stop tour of this great Southern land.
Now in it's 13th year, the Roadshow shares the Comedy Festival vibe with punters outside the Melbourne area code. From Ararat, to Wagga Wagga, Alice Springs to Whyalla, a cast of big local names, newcomers, and overseas guests prove there's no where a comedian fears to tread.
