Mental Health Week is an annual national awareness event. The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and wellbeing in the wider community, to increase community awareness and education about mental health issues and to encourage participation in life enhancing lifestyles.
In Queensland, Mental Health Week is coordinated by a state planning committee, comprising representatives from the Mental Health Association, the Queensland Alliance, Queesland Health, Disability Services Queensland and a consumer and carer representative.
Local and regional events are organised by local groups and communities throughout Queensland. These events:
* highlight statewide initiatives, activities and events
* to increase knowledge and community education about mental health issues
* foster a more supportive and informed attitude to those who live with mental illness
* to encourage participation in healthy lifestyle strategies.
In 2008 Mental Health Week will run from Sunday 5 October through to Saturday 11 October.
Dates for 2008

Preparations for Fusion Festival are now underway. Following the success of 2007's Fusion Festival, 2008 promises to be bigger and better. The Festival offers free entry, free entertainment, free sports and free workshops. Fusion has something for everyone. Fusion Festival will be held in Cotton Tree Park on Sunday the 5th of October to kick-start Mental Health week celebrations. Festivities begin at 12noon and finish at 7pm with live music and a fire twirling display.
The Fusion Festival is a free community event that aims to promote community well being by supporting local artists, businesses, services, sporting clubs, leisure activities and not for profit service providers available within the Sunshine Coast Region.
The Fusion Festival allows the community to access information relating to support services, and try out sports and other social activities to encourage initial and ongoing participation. The information stalls for mental health organisations are mixed in with the sports, arts and holistic healing stalls. This set up allows people to access information and promotes a focus towards health, wellness and recreation.
