RSPCA Qld in conjunction with the Gympie Shire Council is conducting a microchipping blitz in the Gympie area beginning next Saturday.
Microchipping your pet has a number of obvious advantages.
* It helps reunite 'wanderers' with their owners
* It provides instant proof of ownership!
* Collars can come off, microchips can't because they're implanted
However the RSPCA warns that people must also register the microchip.
"Last year RSPCA Qld reunited 5,766 animals with their owners," said RSPCA Qld's Gympie Shelter Manager Rebecca Brazier. "A large number of these reunions wouldn't have occurred if the animal hadn't been microchipped. In fact a year and a half ago a dog was reunited with its owner four years after it had been stolen."
