Million Paws for a Great Cause!
Forty years ago the Rolling Stones extolled the virtues of "Walking the dog" in song. These days the health benefits doing just that are being promoted all over Australia.
Every year, rain or shine, thousands of animals head to parks all over Australia and participate in the RSPCA's annual Million Paws Walk. Apart from being a vital part of the charity's fundraising, the Million Paws Walk is a great way to get healthy and have a great time doing it. This year there are 28 venues throughout Queensland and every venue will have all sorts of activities, displays and competitions, as well as food and drink for the whole family, (including the family pooch!).
So what is the Million Paws Walk? In simple terms it's the RSPCA's biggest fundraising event of the year. Last year over 41,000 animals passed through RSPCA Queensland shelters and financially, without the Million Paws Walk, the charity simply couldn't have coped.
Schools and Businesses are also encouraged to enter teams and walkers can pick up sponsorship forms before the event. And remember, just sixty minutes of moderate activity every day, can dramatically help your general health. Want any more reasons to come along? Just ask the four legged member of the family! But don't forget, even if you don't have a pet, you can still come along for the walk... and the fun!
