Is it Highbrow? Is it Lowbrow? No, it's MONOBROW! Nambour based
artist Evangeline Cachinero will deck the walls at the Noosa Regional
Gallery in her upcoming solo exhibition, Monobrow. Cachinero playfully
balances lowbrow and highbrow art culture with a little tongue in cheek
and positions her art "somewhere in the middle of the two." With layer
upon layer of many mediums and techniques, the show will comprise of
brand new works from 2011.
Evangeline has spent the last year balancing a job as a freelance art director, life as a sole parent and studying for a Master of Visuals Arts while pursuing a passionate and undying devotion to art. "When you love what you do it's easy to work hard", says Evangeline. Notorious for experimentation with style and medium, this new work pulls out all the stops by blending in countless techniques. She explains, "Reinvention is part of who I am." The paintings are built in layers using "sketching, painting, collage, washes, drippings, spray paint, resin, charcoal, and anything lying in the studio."
Alongside the mixed media pieces there will be a video feature highlighting Cachinero's process as well as a multimedia interactive installation where gallery goers and people all around the world can participate through Twitter using either their computers or mobile phones.
Monobrow opens on March 18 at the Noosa Regional Gallery and bring your mobile devices to participate in the interactive piece.
