Information and History
Outrigging is an exciting sport where age is no limit. Paddlers aged 12 to 70+ years stay healthy and happy by training regularly and competing in a beautiful ocean environment. Outrigging can be a social, individual or team sport in which competitors can aim for and achieve State, National and International championship levels.
Mooloolaba Outrigger Canoe Club has enjoyed much success since its inception in 1990 with the Master Men division (35 years +) receiving six Hawaiian Molokai Marathon Race championships and the Australian Hamilton Island Cup Race championship. Under the guidance of Coach Lisa Curry-Kenny, the women's crews have won every outrigging race in Australia, as well as the Hawaiian Molokai Marathon Race, breaking several records in the process. Junior teams also competed Internationally, receiving medals at the Hilo World Sprint Titles in 2004. As a Club, Mooloolaba has won the National Club Championship in 2004. All members eagerly await the new challenges awaiting us in 2005.
