Whether you’re a green thumb, want to do your bit for the environment or are just looking for an excuse to spend a morning outdoors, come along on Sunday 31 July to plant a tree on National Tree Day.
Sunshine Coast Council is supporting two tree planting events on the Coast at both Marcus Beach and Little Mountain.
Environment Portfolio Holder Cr Keryn Jones said National Tree Day is Australia’s largest community tree-planting event.
“Planting a tree on National Tree Day is a simple and lasting way to make a positive contribution to the community and our environment,” Cr Jones said.
“Council is supporting two tree plantings events.
“One at Marcus Beach, which has been organised by Marcus Beach Community Nature Conservation Group, Noosa and District Landcare and council, to help stabilise and improve the health of the coastal dunes and provide essential habitat for Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos on the Coast.
“The second is the 4000m2 Bancroft’s Red Gum Bush Reserve site at Little Mountain where volunteers will be planting mainly Wallum species to extend the existing bush reserve, with the aim to protect, maintain and restore the environmental and habitat values.
“So head down and get your hands dirty and play your part in protecting our region’s environment for the future.”
There will be tree planting and wildlife presentations on the day. Please wear appropriate clothing—a hat, covered shores, long sleeved shirt and long pants are recommended.
Gloves, tools and equipment for planting, watering cans and buckets, drinking water and a BBQ will be provided on the day.
To RSVP as a volunteer visit the National Tree Day website at treeday.planetark.org and select your desired work site.

National Tree Day is organised by Planet Ark and attracts more than 300,000 volunteers around the country each year.
