Mooloolaba SLSC Nippers - Max Jones Lily Ross, Grace Thomas, Ryan Notley Mollie Ross

Summer is just around the corner and with it comes, Nippers season! Nippers is an Australian institution. A great way for kids to learn water safety, keep fit, get outside and enjoy the glorious Sunshine Coast beaches. The Mooloolaba Surf Club Nippers sign on is Sunday 26th August 2018, 9am-12 at Mountain Creek swimming pool and the club is excited to welcome families, old and new to come and join.  So, get the kids to put down the iPad and come to sign up for a summer packed full of fun, fitness and friendships.

Nippers caters for kids aged 5 to 13 years old and Mooloolaba has a cadets program for 14-17year old’s.  Nippers and Junior Lifesavers are the breeding ground for the lifesavers of the future and the volunteers at Mooloolaba Surf Lifesaving Club are pitching in to make it the best season yet.  The focus for Nippers is fun, and surf awareness and it’s a great way for the whole family to enjoy a morning at the beach.  Parents can get involved too, with everything from beach bar b ques to water safety (after an SRC or Bronze Course) or just relax on the beach while the kids have all the fun.

“Nippers is a great way for children learn valuable life skills, including ocean awareness, beach safety, caring for the environment and lifesaving skills. There is a strong focus on mateship and teamwork, with kids at every level from novice to little athletes. The sessions run in a safe and caring environment with fully qualified age managers, coaches and water safety. It’s a great way for the whole family to enjoy long, sunny days at the beach, barbeques with friends and keeping fit. Mooloolaba is about being part of a family team and a community,” said Nippers Chairman Hamish Bolderston.

Nippers runs, Sunday mornings, from September until March (with a short break over Christmas and New Year). Also included in the membership, are a host of additional optional activities, that run during the week. With training sessions in sprint coaching, board riding, swim training, first aid and beach awareness. Not forgetting the socials, including Mooloolaba Nippers famous weekly Wednesday night barbeque and award nights.

Nippers provide gentle guidance for the children that find the sea daunting and safety for the ones with no fear. Children develop their confidence in the water, as well as develop strong social and community awareness ethics.  It’s also a great bonus for kids on college, school or job applications, to show that they have proven experience in a responsible role.

To join Mooloolaba SLSC Nippers for the 2018/2019 season, children must be aged 5 as of 30th September 2018. The little green caps program is for 5-7 year old’s and introduces them to the beach, teaches about waves and the basics of water safety.   Then the 8-13s gain a variety of water skills with a host of specialised, volunteer coaches.  So come and give Nippers a try at Mooloolaba Beach. Where else would you rather be!

Sign on is 26th August at Mountain Creek Swimming Pool, Mountain Creek from 9am-12,

where the swimming proficiency will also be held.
