NOOSA BLUE WATER SWIM ATTRACTS SURFS BEST
The inaugural Noosa Blue Water Swim has attracted the attention of Surf Lifesaving's best with champions Kristy Munroe and Dean Mercer both signing on to compete in the 2km event.
Munroe was recently named in the Australian team to compete in the World Life Saving Championships in Italy this September. The 2002 Australian Ironwoman Champion will be getting in some much needed competition in the lead up to the World Championships at the Noosa Blue Water Swim on Sunday, 9 May.
Following on from his spectacular win in the Laser Sight Centres Mooloolaba Ocean Swim three weeks ago Mercer will go into the 2km event as hot favourite to take home some of the $5,000 in prize money on offer.
"I rate myself as a pretty good chance, I was happy with my performance at Mooloolaba and I'm still in good shape so I'm hoping to make it a great Mothers Day."
While not in exactly the same shape as Mercer, Noosa Blue Resort Owner, Phillip Harding is also in training for the event along with friend Ray White boss, Brian White. "I'm swimming everyday, and believe I have an ace up my sleeve for the day because of my knowledge of the beach and surf conditions. I'll need every advantage I can get," said Harding.
Both mates and keen Noosa swimmers, they have established the event as part of the annual, South East Queensland ocean based events and the gloves will be off on race day between the pair.
Harding has also inspired his staff who have put together a team and will compete in the Corporate Category. With major prizes for the winning corporate team and the most entries is sure to inspire some competition for the Noosa Blue Resort team.
The Noosa Blue Water Swim events include the Noosa Blue 2 kilometre swim around the headland from the Noosa National Park and the Ray White 700 metre dash along Noosa's Main Beach.
Entries are open to all ages and designed for fun and participation with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category and heaps of random draw prizes to be given away.
Following the event stay around for the Viridian Mothers Day Beach Brunch featuring a Grace Knight concert and treat mum to a really special day or take advantage of Noosa Blue Resorts special offers.
