Could St Bees Hold the Key for Koala Survival?
Friday Forum will hear about the Earthwatch Koala Research Project on St Bees Island, situated 30 km from Mackay. Cheryl Bean will be the Guest Speaker on Friday, July 11th at 11.15am, at the Environment Centre Wallace Park.
She will discuss her experiences and the learning outcomes from her 'once in a lifetime' opportunity to participate as a volunteer, in this breakthrough study. This study is led by Dr Alistair Melzir of Central University of Queensland and Dr Bill Ellis, Conservation of Endangered Species of San Diego's Zoological Society. It partners with other koala studies and groups, collecting data, to provide scientific understanding of the many diverse and complex factors needed to sustain a healthy koala population, such as can be found on St Bees Island.
