Nurses, doctors and patients will combine on Sunday for a rally in Mooloolaba to protest State Government plans to privatise the delivery of public health at the new Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
The rally, from 1130am beside the Loo With A View, will include representatives from the Sunshine Coast University Action Group, the Sunshine Coast University Hospital Community Coalition and the Queensland Nurses Union.
Bill Gissane (pictured), the Labor Party ~ candidate for I the Federal seat of Fisher, said the private delivery of 14 a Li public health services would not only impact on doctors and nurses with patients likely to be the worst affected.
Also likely to be impacted, he said, were university students who had anticipated getting jobs inside a public hospital system.
Mr Gissane said the rationale behind the $1.8 billion hospital project was to attract specialists to a public teaching hospital.
The government has called for expressions of interest from private providers to deliver all clinical and non-clinical services to the hospital.
