We are very excited to have the Ocean Film Festival at The J for the first time!

A chance meeting at an orphanage in Mexico was the unlikely catalyst behind the award winning short film I Lost My Dream which has been selected from over 420 film entries to tour the globe with the Ocean Film Festival in 2016.

When Aussie surfers, film makers and adventurers Stefan Hunt and Jonno Durant volunteered at the Misión México children’s refuge they’d heard stories of a big hearted couple from Caloundra who were changing the lives and they wanted to be a part of it. What they didn’t count on was meeting their inspirational adopted son Moacir Zeledon. It is Moacir’s story of tragedy, love and renewal and his introduction to the restorative powers of the ocean by Pam and Alan Suske that is brought to life in I Lost My Dream.

On March 4 Sunshine Coast audiences can see this insightful and inspirational short on the big screen as part of the Ocean Film Festival Australian 2016 Tour. Designed to mesmerise and enthral, the Ocean Film Festival Australia showcases more than two hours of sublime footage taken above and below the water’s surface. The films document the beauty and power of the ocean, and celebrate the divers, surfers, sailors, paddlers, swimmers and oceanographers who live for the sea’s salt spray; who chase the crests of waves; and who marvel at the mysteries of the big blue.

The 2016 tour features 8 of the world’s most captivating ocean-themed short films including 6 Australian Cinematic Premiers. Audiences will explore the remote and rugged Alaskan Aleutian chain of islands with two adventurous kayakers attempting a world first. They will take a wild ride with the world’s most courageous surfers and windsurfers as they catch gigantic waves. Viewers will embark on a voyage through the tropical waters of the Bay of Bengal and remote Indonesian islands in a revolutionary new boat made from jute. They will immerse themselves in the majestic underwater world encountering rare and unique marine life with award winning filmmakers Michele and Howard Hall as their guides – including incredible footage and stories about their time filming on Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef.

The films feature captivating cinematography, complete with awe-inspiring underwater scenes and fast-paced wave sequences that will leave you gasping for breath. Mesmerising images of schooling fish, colourful coral gardens and jellyfish blooms are complemented with up-close footage of curious marine creatures such as seals, manta rays, turtles and whales.

Now in it’s third year the Ocean Film Festival Australia is taking on the world and bringing it’s unique program (including I Lost My Dream) to audiences around the globe. With over 50 screenings across the US, China, New Zealand, Belgium, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom scheduled in 2016, the Ocean Film Festival Australia is taking the world by storm and enthralling ocean lovers across the globe.
This not to be missed event is screening for ONE NIGHT ONLY at The J.
