9 May 2006 Annual expo inspires older citizens
Caloundra City Libraries' Older Learner's Expo (OLE) has been such a huge success with the region's older citizens it is expected to be bigger and better this year.
Caloundra City Mayor Don Aldous said the expo, now in its third year, has filled a niche for this demographic group of residents, providing valuable information relating to health, finances and community services.
"The health and wellbeing of the City's residents is an important factor for Council, to ensure we have a happy and productive community," Cr Aldous said.
"It is easy for our senior residents to become isolated, especially if they are new to the area or family and friends move away from the area, and this expo is a marvellous opportunity for them to access a huge range of information in an entertaining and social environment.
"In this forum they can learn about safeguarding their financial security, trends in health, how to make their homes more secure, local sports and community groups, while also having a cup of tea and a chat."
Participants in OLE can look forward to a range of displays and information booths at the Kawana Library and Community Hall, showcasing services and learning opportunities available to older residents.
"This year's theme is 'Life is for Living' which is a true reflection of the attitude of many seniors who are leading longer, healthier lives than previous generations," Cr Aldous said.
