Roles

  • Oliver Twist.  Stage Age 10 —13.  Vocal Range A2 to G4.  Orphaned and abandoned from an upper class family, Oliver ends up in the workhouse.  He is innocent and goodhearted, with a strong spirit.  NOTE The role of Oliver may be played by a male or female.  You must be willing to cut and/or color your hair in a traditional boy's cut to be considered for this role.
  • The Artful Dodger.  Stage Age 15-18.  Vocal Range A2 to D4.  A petty thief and Fagin's brightest pupil. He is small for his age, but older than his years.  He is a good soul in spite of his "occupation".  Dodger is lively and self-assured.
  • Fagin.  Stage Age 40 — 60.  Vocal Range Baritone or Tenor C2 to F3.  Runs a training academy for young pickpockets. An aging petty thief who's feeling remorse for his life of crime.  He is a father figure to his street urchin pupils.  A dark comical role.
  • Nancy.  Stage Age 25-35.  Vocal Range Alto F2-E4.  A graduate of Fagin's "academy" and tragically involved with Bill Sykes.  She is tough and street smart, but also caring and good-hearted.  A mother figure to Fagin's gang.
  • Bill Sykes.  Stage Age 30 — 55.  Vocal Range Bass Al to D3.  Perhaps the most infamous graduate from Fagin's gang.  Bill is a petty thief gone bad.  Nancy's love interest.
  • Mr. Bumble.  Stage Age 45-60.  Vocal Range Tenor C2 to A3.  The Beadle who runs the workhouse.  Pompous and self-absorbed, greedy and uncaring.
  • Widow Corny.  Stage Age 40-55.  Vocal Range Soprano C3 to G4.  The workhouse Mistress. She is a sharp-tongued, domineering widow. A comical role.
  • Mr. Sowerberry.  Stage Age 40-70.  Vocal Range Baritone C2 to E3.  The Undertaker. Lives up to his name.  He is stingy and ruled by his wife.  Good comedic timing will be an asset.
  • Mrs. Sowerberry.  Stage Age 40-65.  Vocal Range Alto or Soprano C3 to G4.  The Undertaker's wife.  She rules the roost and is stingy and mean-spirited.  Along with her husband, provides some comic relief.
  • Charlotte.  Stage Age 15-18.  The Sowerberry's daughter.  Lower class and a major flirt.
  • Noah Claypole.  Stage Age 15-18.  The Undertaker's apprentice.  A low class bully.
  • Mr. Brownlow.  Stage Age 50-70.  A distinguished older gentleman of wealth and breeding.

  • Ensemble.  Stage Age 16 and up.  All vocal ranges
  • Workhouse Assistants, Townspeople, Bow Street Runners, Hussar, Night Watchman.  Some individual lines.  Singing and dancing in ensemble numbers.
