Over 70’s Cricketers from all Australian States will be pounding the wickets at Sunshine Coast Cricket Fields from the 13th – 18th September. The National Over 70’s Cricket Championships are being played at cricket centres across the Sunshine Coast. Fourteen teams of Over 70’s will tackle the local conditions for the honour of being named National Champions. The 40 Over matches will be played in two Divisions commencing at 9.30 am each day. Queensland will be represented by 2 Division 1 teams and 1 team in Division 2.

Some 150 cricketers, many accompanied by their partners will arrive on Wednesday 13 September for a Welcome Function at Club Mooloolaba. (Mooloolaba Bowls Club) where players will be welcomed by the Mayor, Cr Mark Jamieson and the Chair of Cricket Australia, Mr. David Peever. Matches are scheduled on 13,14,17,18 September with a two day break on the weekend of 15,16 September. Whilst the cricket will be serious, there is plenty of time for socializing and catching up with old mates during and after matches.

Kerry Emery, a spokesman for Queensland Veterans Cricket said the event was organised by Queensland Veterans Cricket with great support from Sunshine Coast Regional Council. Growth in the number of veteran cricketers involved across Australia has caused organizers to conduct separate events for the 60’s and 70’s. The National 60’s will be held in Penrith in November with 4 Queensland teams participating.

Spectators are welcome at all matches.
