CALLING ALL OCEAN LOVERS!
The biggest United Nations climate conference of the decade is happening in Paris. The weekend before it starts, the world will stand together for a weekend of global action to send a powerful message to global governments: Keep fossil fuels in the ground and finance a just transition to 100% clean and renewable energy by 2050!
To coincide with the People's Climate March happening across Australia's major cities, The Sunshine Coast Environment Council in collaboration with Surfrider Foundation and 350.org, will be hosting a "PADDLE OUT FOR CLIMATE ACTION" event to show Malcolm Turnbull that the Sunshine Coast want positive action on climate change!
Bring your surfboard, paddle board, body board or surfcraft of choice to Noosa Main Beach! We'll be meeting at the white tent on the sand at 9am to chat briefly about why we're gathering and then commencing the paddle shortly after.
We will be taking an aerial photograph of the paddle out, so wear a smile, your favourite swim suit, and help us show the world's leaders that ocean lovers want a clean and user-friendly ocean well into the future!
Don't have a board? Tom Wegener will be displaying his collection of wooden Belly Boards to celebrate 100years of sustainable surfing! He'll have a bunch of belly boards for people to try as well!
As Dan Ross (professional surfer and climate change ambassador) puts it “Surfers are the natural guardians and spokespersons of the sea … We base our lives in and around it. Surfers must be among the first to lead by example to create the critical mass of change that will inspire others to look after the ocean — our playground.”
This is our moment. The opportunity is before us. Together, as a global movement, we can make the U.N. climate talks in Paris about people and power, not polluters and politicians. Join the Global day of Climate Action on November 28 - grab your board, and lets paddle out to show we care!
