Stan Jones is Noosa’s inspiration to many. At 80 years young, Stan’s boundless energy and zest for life has led to his solo art exhibition at the Harbourside Gallery. Noosa Marina, Tewantin.
From the 10th of July to 6th August, Stan, who claims Van Gogh, Renoir, Leonardo as his European influences, will show “Paintings For You” where his fabourite canvases will be on display. Among an endless list, Sid Nolan, Albert Tucker, Brett Whiteley, Russel Drysdale, Donald Friend, Jeffrey Smart are where Stan draws his inspiration for his Australian subjects.
Stan describes himself as a a “creative being - painting and dancing - were a defence mechanism a place to go to where I could be myself” he says. Stan had his first art lesson at age 8 and at age 15, his teacher at Prahran Tech, Melbourne, had him drawing from plaster casts.
His love of drawing and experimenting with various mediums stem back from those early days. His skills have grown from there and from workshops with Ian Bow, Victorian Art Society and through studies of Watercolour Masters, Alvaro Castignet, David Taylor and many others.
In his early days in Noosa, Stan exhibited at Eumundi Road Gallery, Art Bank, Eumundi and he had a stall at the Eumundi Markets where he enjoyed great success. Stan’s interesting and colourful canvases are all for sale at $200.00 as he says that he would like everyone to have access to original art.
