October is global breast cancer awareness month, and in Buderim, on Saturday 21st, the local community will PINK UP for PINKTOBER, raising funds for the Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Program.
The Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Program provides assistance to families affected by breast cancer including help with their day-to-day needs, with education, clinical services, and a memory maker program. It is a not-for-profit organisation that was launched April 2007, founded by the late Cindy Mackenzie's family and friends. Cindy was community minded, passionate and wanted to support people who needed assistance in their 'hour of need'.
Pinktober Markets and Auction are the brainchild of Amanda Fairbank of Buderim and is one of the largest events organised for the Program this year.
Amanda is a mother, physiotherapist and a breast cancer survivor.
"Breast Cancer has impacted my family and many families in our community. Every day in Australia, around 50 women are told they have breast or a gynaecological cancer and sadly, every day 12 women die from these."
"For a number of years, my church community has had a cake auction for the Cindy Mackenzie Foundation. This year I thought that it was time to open this fun activity to the whole community and raise more money for this very worthwhile local cause."
"We have had great support from many local businesses, who have donated a wide range of very exciting prizes to be auctioned along with the specialty cakes."
"You will be amazed by the wonderful creations by our local pastry chefs. They look too good to eat, but they taste even better. It is worth it just to see them."
"Pink will be the colour for the day – we have around 30 stalls selling a range of products from foodstuff, clothing, homewares, services and games."
"Entertainment includes a quartet from the Sunshine Coast Youth Orchestra, a latin dancing demonstration and a magic show!"
"The Auction will be held at 11.30am and all you need to do is be there, with your money!"
All the community is invited to attend the markets held at the Buderim War Memorial Hall from 9am to 2pm. A gold coin donation is encouraged at the door.
The congregation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is hosting the event, and Amanda can be contacted at 0414 325 608.
