Transvaal Diamond Syndicate (Brisbane) are one of the hardest-working original bands in Australia hands-down. 2011 saw them perform around 120 live all-original shows across the country, which only recently included a 35-date tour of the East Coast in support of their second album release ‘Sins of the Blessed’ (MGM/Starving Kids).
Cue 2012 and a major lineup change and the band is at it again, this time loading up the TDS Express (faithful tour-van) for a mammoth self-booked tour of some 65+ original shows lasting from the end of February to late June. TDS will partner up with Tasmanian blues-rock two-piece Guthrie and cover Cairns down to Tasmania, stopping at almost every major centre in between. Both bands will hit the road in a van and a station-wagon and travel close to 30,000kms in their quest to bring quality blues-rock music to an ever-widening group of new and existing fans across Australia. This is a truly massive endeavour, which most bands will never undertake in their careers.
There will be white-line fever, there will be limited sleep, there will be service station and pub food for four months, there will be reliance on the kindness of fans and strangers for accommodation, there will be laughs, there will be hangovers the size of Texas, there will be prolonged periods of silence as they cover vast amounts of the country (some 25,000kms) on four wheels, but most of all there will be a tonne of high-energy blues-rock showcased to a bunch of towns and venues, many of which the boys haven’t played before.
Transvaal Diamond Syndicate is hitting the ground running in 2012 with 3 Festival appearances (Cool Summer, Noosa Fest of Surfing and Bruny Island Blues Festival), a new single release (tour namesake ‘Pistols at Dawn’) and a new filmclip. This capped off a successful 2011 for the band in which they played 11 festivals including the Byron Bay Bluesfest, signed a record and distribution deal, took out #6 on the 4ZzZ Brisbane’s Hottest Tracks of 2011 (#1 in 2010, received JJJ play on 2 tracks, aired on ‘Rage’, won the Qld Blues Award for ‘Song of the Year’ and headlined over 60 venues nation-wide along with supporting some of the country’s best names.
Be sure to catch TDS and Guthrie, Tasmania’s hottest blues/rock act, as they pass through your town in the coming weeks. They both deliver an energetic blend of blues and rock music and know how to put on a show to remember.
