SCLA is holding a workshop for those interested in learning the skills of playwriting and is suitable for both beginners and more experienced writers.
In the first session on 3 May attendees will receive a hands-on approach to writing for the stage, incorporating the fundamentals of theme, action, characterisation, dialogue, theatricality and space.
The attendees will be encouraged to write their own short play, so that a draft may be read at the second workshop.
In the second session on 17 May the drafts will be read aloud and discussed in detail. For those interested, a further draft of their work will be read at a later date by actors and directors at a monthly BATS play reading night, with a view to possibly having the plays produced by BATS.
The workshop will be facilitated by Bruce Olive. He is a local playwright and a long term member of BATS Theatre Company. He has written many plays that have been performed around Australia, and he has won numerous playwriting awards on the Sunshine Coast and around Australia.
This workshop is held over two sessions - 3 May and 17 May from 9am to 12pm.
Kawana Library, Nanyima St Buddina
Fee: Members $20
The fee covers both sessions. BATS members are also entitled to members’ rates.
