Stephen Roberts and Kari will be holding an Open Art Studio event for the June Queen’s birthday weekend. In opening their studio to the public, they wish to celebrate all things pottery, in a homely fashion. There will be no unicorn rides, but there will be heaps of ceramic discovery.
Think all things pottery.
During the Open Studio weekend the wood-fire kiln will be stoked; watch the firers at work. You can have a go at a wheel yourself, or witness wheel demonstrations by experienced potters; see the magic of a turning wheel, and the ancient craft of an artisan. Watch the hands of a magician. You can decorate your own piece of pottery, or simply visit the exhibition and displays.
Meet the potters; Stephen has an appreciation of kick wheels, stacks of firewood and surfing. He teaches ceramics in Cooroy and Brisbane. Kari’s installations have appeared in dance concerts, at festivals and in galleries and in Japan. Both Kari & Stephen teach pottery at the Woodford Folk festival.
Their workshop has four wheels and not enough shelves. In the back yard is a chook pen, a small forest and a wood-fire kiln.
