King of the Mountain 2006
Yes, it's almost that time again, July 23rd. is when Pomona comes alive and gears up for the King of the Mountain Festival. This year marks the 27th. Year of continuous King of the Mountains. The New Zealanders have dominated the race for the last few years, but we believe this is the Aussies year.
We are starting early with a motorcycle poker run on Sunday July 2nd. This entails motorcyclists assembling at 8.00am at Stan Topper Park, Pomona ready for the start of the run at 9.00am. The run is a leisurely ride through the countryside with five stops. At each stop the rider picks playing cards which are collated and the one with the best hand at the end of the run is the winner. Random prizes will be drawn at each stop and at the finish.
July 23 will be a fun packed day. The day will start with the Bush Poet's Breakfast at 7.00am and going through until 9.30am. This event is by ticket only and numbers are limited so be quick and book your tickets now. The 10km and 3km fun runs are scheduled for 8.00am and 9.00am respectively. The ever popular Primary School Relays will start at 9.30am followed by prize giving at 11.00am. Hopefully we can get a record number of Schools participating this year. If your School has not entered a team then ask your sports teacher if your School can enter a team, boys or girls.
Entertainment, throughout the day will be by 'Chardonnay Sippers', on main stage, 'The Jazz Factory' will be roaming the park with 'Paddy's Drovers' and "Maice & Ali Duo', in the food area. The bar will be open from 10.00am and the food outlets will operate all day. Kay-Dee Promotions will again provide the rides and fun attractions. The popular 'pig racing' will again be present as will the BMX and Motorcycle Stunt riders showing their skills throughout the day. The craft market will operate all day with many new and varied stalls.
Our radio promotion this year is through ABC Coast FM. We are looking forward to wider promotion of the KOM all the way from the Tweed to Hervey Bay with additional air time on 612AM covering Brisbane Metropolitan Area. Additionally we will be broadcasting live from the KOM from 5.30am through until 5.30pm. ABC's famous personality Ian McNamara (Macka) will be broadcasting Live from 5.30 until 10.00am. In addition to all this the ABC will be streaming live broadcast all day through the internet world wide. This gives a totally new dimension to the KOM festival.
This year we are running several interactive workshops for all ages. So far we have the 'Art', 'Didgeridoo and Aboriginal Traditional Food and medicines', and 'Percussion' workshops arranged. Bookings for these can be made on the day.
As always it takes a lot of manpower to make this festival the success it has been over the years. We are always looking for helpers, so if you are able to assist on the day please let us know.
