Premier of Queensland
The Honourable Peter Beattie
PREMIER TO ANNOUNCE TRAVESTON TO OPEN PUBLIC MEETING
Premier Peter Beattie announced this afternoon that he will hold an open public meeting for people directly and indirectly affected by the planned Traveston Dam.
Mr Beattie has expressed his confidence that it will be an orderly public meeting.
"I will be there to report directly to those involved and will take questions from anyone who asks them, as will Water Minister Henry Palaszczuk," Mr Beattie said.
"To ensure absolutely everybody with an interest in this issue can hear the decision and the reasons for it first hand, we have worked this afternoon to find the largest public venue available in the area and I am extending the invitation to the entire community, and any interested parties outside it.
"Information on the meeting is being as widely disseminated as possible and I have urged the local mayor, the local member, and community representatives to invite as many people as possible," he said.
Mr Beattie will be in Cairns tonight, but will be in Gympie by 1pm for the public meeting.
The meeting will be held at: The Pavilion, Cnr of Exhibition & Johnstone Rds, Gympie at 1pm.
