Experience the Carrara Connection here on your doorstep

Renowned American sculptor, MJ Anderson is set to visit the Sunshine Coast as part of the new Noosa Stone Sculpture Bequest program.
Anderson will oversee the installation of her sculpture, the program's first bequest, on 9 March at Noosa Botanic Gardens.
Sunshine Coast residents will have the unique opportunity to attend a lecture by the noted artist called 'The Carrara Connection', on 8 March from 5 to 7pm at the Noosa Regional Gallery.
Whether you're a budding sculptor, or just interested in the arts, the free lecture offers a wonderful opportunity to gain an insight into the artist's passion for sculpture and her illustrious career-to-date.
Division 12 Councillor Lew Brennan will officially launch the Noosa Stone Sculpture Bequest and unveil the MJ Anderson sculpture at the gardens on 9 March at 3pm.
Manager Creative Communities, Pauline Gordon said the beautiful Noosa Botanic Gardens stands to benefit from the generosity of a private donor with a love of the arts and gardens and a desire to see one of the region's hidden treasures more widely recognised and enjoyed.
"Following the generous $200,000 donation from the anonymous donor, the Noosa Stone Sculpture Bequest program was established to enable the creation of a Stone Sculpture Walk within the gardens over the coming years," she said.
"The bequest program will be awarded biennially and will enable the winning sculptor the opportunity to travel and work for two months, with access to master tuition at the renowned Studio Corsanini in Carrara, Italy.
"Following the Carrara residency the artist will receive assistance to complete a stone piece to be added to the sculpture walk within the gardens."
Ms Gordon said the gift of the first sculpture in the program had been awarded directly by the donor to Anderson, who has a long affiliation with Carrara.
Budding sculpture artists currently have the opportunity to enter the new Noosa Stone Sculpture Bequest program, with applications open until 31 March 2011.
For 'The Carrara Connection' lecture Anderson will present a slide talk of her connection and experiences at the carving community, in Carrara. She will discuss her passion for sculpture and give an insight into the new work for the gardens.
In 2005 MJ Anderson was one of several sculptors who participated in the Stone International Sculpture Symposium held in the Maroochy Bushland Botanic Gardens.
