Department of Primary Industries & Fisheries
Public Meeting for Equine Influenza
QUESTIONS on the equine influenza outbreak will be answered at a public meeting at the Maleny Community Centre, Maple Street, on Friday 21st December at 6.30pm.
Details of the new buffer zones will be available.
A DPI&F veterinarian will attend along with equine influenza information officers.
Due to the diligence and hard work of the local community the virus has been contained and Caloundra City remains free of infection.
Community Resource Centre Officer Jaclyn Oudejans said this is the only chance we have to eradicate the virus.
"It can only be achieved with continued community support," she said.
"It is imperative a sick horse is reported to DPI&F, so that Departmental Officers can undertake investigation and if necessary consider vaccination to contain further spread."
Horses in the buffer zone, north of Caboolture are being vaccinated to lessen the risk of the infection spreading into the hinterland.
The equine influenza information meeting is open to everyone.
