A touring exhibition featuring tea cosies made out of aircraft fabrics, mosaic, metal and even corks will come to Cooroy on Friday 10 October 2008.
Presented by Queensland Arts Council's Ontour onexhibition, MAID 4 T showcases a huge array of tea cosies, from the traditional knitted and crocheted, to textile art forms.
Methods include mosaic, metal work, embroidery, appliqué, patchwork, weaving, quilting and free form fabric work.
Ontour onexhibition Manager Jenni Regnart said the intriguing exhibition elevates the humble tea cosy from a domestic object to an art form in its own right.
The exhibition is a selection of tea cosies from the annual World Tea Cosy Championships, which was initiated by the Miles Regional Arts Council in partnership with Murilla Shire Council, said Ms Regnart.
The championships have only been going for two years, but last year, they received over 400 tea cosy entries from across Australia and as far a field as Ireland, Scotland, Canada, U.S.A., South Africa, England and New Zealand.
You have to check out this exhibition - you will never look at a tea cosy in the same way again! she said. It's a really exciting look at how the function of the object is put aside for art's sake.
Ontour onexhibition produces, programs and presents quality touring exhibitions of original works encompassing multiple artforms. It is Queensland's most extensive touring exhibitions program and continues to have a regional reach three times larger than any touring exhibition program in Queensland.
