Each year we host Queensland Week to celebrate Queensland's official separation from New South Wales.
On 6 June 1859, Queen Victoria signed the Letters Patent, authorising Queensland's separation, and confirming its status as an independent colony. This day—6 June—is now known as Queensland Day.
In 2013, Queensland Week will be held from 1 to 9 June 2013.
Premier Campbell Newman has invited working Queenslanders to mark
Queensland Day by hosting their own workplace event on Thursday 6 June.
Mr Newman said the Government encouraged Queenslanders to celebrate our state’s birthday with their work colleagues as part of the Queensland Day in the Office program.
“This is the day we mark our official separation from New South Wales,” Mr Newman said.
“To commemorate what makes us the best state, I encourage all working Queenslanders to come together and wear maroon with pride.
“Workplaces could host a morning tea or barbeque lunch featuring fresh Queensland foods, or deck out the office in Queensland’s favourite colour.
“It’s a day to remember with pride and we encourage everyone to participate.”
Queensland businesses can register their celebration to go in the draw to win $2,000 credit from Di Bella Coffee.
All entrants will receive a complimentary Di Bella Coffee introductory pack for their office party.
Passionate Queenslander, Phillip Di Bella, Founder and Managing Director of Di Bella Coffee urged the working community to join in the celebrations.
“I am proud to support this important initiative and encourage all working Queenslanders to get involved in celebrating our state’s birthday,” Mr Di Bella said.
