Proudly presented by The Surf Club Mooloolaba and the Sunshine Coast CouncilAt 5:00am on Thursday25th April, thousands of people from our community will gather to honour and remember all Australians who served and continued to serve, at the very moving and tradition raising of the oars, Mooloolaba ANZAC Day Dawn service.

The symbolic Dawn Service will be held on Mooloolaba Beach looking up towards The Surf Club Mooloolaba. Ian Atkinson, Ex-serviceman along with many other Members of both The Surf Club Mooloolaba and Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club who served in the Vietnam War, dedicate a lot oftime each year to organise the ANZAC DAY Dawn Service.

“It’s a great honour to organise an event to acknowledge the ANZAC’s and to provide a service where everyone can spend time to remember and reflect on the sacrifices made by so many brave men and women.” Ian Atkinson said.

The Mooloolaba ANZAC Day Dawn Service is now in its 12th year. Staying true to its tradition, Ian Atkinson continues to make the service more appealing to the younger members by involving the nippers. This year Mr Andrew Wallace, MP, Member for Fisher QLD, Ms Fiona Simpson, Member for Maroochydore and Superintendent Darryl Johnson, Sunshine Coast Police District, will be in attendance and participatingby laying a wreath along with our Nippers.

Wreaths will be laid at the foot of a large image which is known to be the last soldier. And during the minute silence, approximately 80men and women will raise their oarsfrom Surf Boats off the shore. We greatly appreciated the support from the Sunshine Coast Council over the past few years. It is with this support that The Surf Club Mooloolaba is able to provide a service which will adequately honor the contribution made by our countryman to the growing number of people who gather each year. To provide a service which clearly recognises the sacrifices made by many to the freedoms that we recognise today.

Bryan Jones, General Manager of The Surf Club Mooloolaba said “Last years’ service attracted approximately 10,000 people, so this year we have upped the ante to include large screens and appropriate lighting and sound to cater to the thousands in attendance.”“We are extremely honoured to be hosting another ANZAC Day Dawn Service and look forward to sharing this important day of reflection”, said Bryan Jones.
