Relay For Life
Relay For Life is an overnight team event to raise funds for the Queensland Cancer Fund.
Participants have lots of fun as they challenge themselves to complete a relay style walk or run. Entertainment, spot prizes and a collage of colourful tents create a festive atmosphere.
It's 18 hours of fun, with the challenge of completing a relay style walk or run around a local track. Relay For Life is a unique, challenging and fun way to raise money and awareness of cancer research within the community.
Relay For Life has become the world's largest fundraiser, with events held in 14 countries including 4,000 events in America where it all began with one man in 1985. In Queensland in 2005 we are aiming to raise over $2 million.
Who Gets Involved
All members of the community are welcome. Relay For Life is for everyone. Families, friends, community groups and businesses can all join in. We encourage all participants to raise $100 toward the fundraising effort of their team.
Fundraising can be a simple donation from friends and family or a variety of activities, limited only by your imagination. All donations of $2 and over are tax deductible and receipt books are provided with your kit.
Here's what to do:
Step 1: Join in the fun
Just tear off the registration form and return it to the Queensland Cancer Fund with your registration fee.
Step 2: And we'll send to you...
Your fundraising kit containing team handbooks, deposit books and many other useful items.
Step 3: Go on a recruiting spree
You can register 10-15 team members per team and receive your team polo shirts.
Step 4: Reach the target or even more
Put the date of your local Relay For Life in your diary and keep on fundraising until the day. We ask teams to target $1000,
however we won't stop anyone who wants to try.
Step 5: Now it's time to Relay For Life
Roster your team members to take turns walking or running relay style around the track. Be sure to bank the money raised before the event so you can relax on the day and enjoy the experience.
What happens at the event:
* Food - Bring your own or purchase from on site vendors.
* Survivors - Celebrate the strength of those living with cancer during the Survivor's walk, an inspirational opening to the event.
* Entertainment - A showcase of local talent adds a unique flavour to every Relay For Life.
* Camping - Pitch your tent, light your lantern and get ready for one big pyjama party.
* Candlelight Ceremony - Place a candle tribute around the track in support of survivors or in memory of loved ones, then gather around at dusk to experience this moving ceremony.
* Teams - Get your friends, colleagues and family together in teams of 10 - 15 and come and join in the fun.
