AUGUST'S EVENTS FOR THE NORTHERN SUNSHINE COAST AND HINTERLAND REGION OF THE AUSTRALIAN SEWING GUILD INC RETRO FASHION PARADE AND ARTFUL BRA EXHIBITION 19TH TO 28TH AUGUST 2010 - A DISPLAY OF "ARTFUL BRAS" TO BE HELD AT THE OLD RAILWAY STATION GALLERY, RAILWAY STREET, POMONA, ON THE 19TH TO 28TH AUGUST 2010, OPENING TIME FROM 9.00 AM TO 4.00 PM.
About May 2009 when we were scratching our heads about what to do for our annual sewing challenge, an American friend of one of the members sent the website of the Southern Carolina Quilters exhibits of "Artful Bras" that were created for Breast Cancer Awareness, to memorialise those lost to the disease, and to honour survivors. The members of both groups in the Northern Sunshine Coast Region were enthusiastic, and the ideas flowed, members then worked at creating a variety of comical and imaginative bras, which will be on display. Barbara Hawker, Tewantin Group leader approached Kelly Hart, the Health Promotion Officer at Breast Screen Queensland and discussed the idea. Kelly agreed to come and judge the entries. It was suggested that we could use the bras not only to promote the Guild, but also as a way of promoting awareness about the need for women to remain vigilant about breast cancer.
