The Infamous "Cotton Club" was a popular New York City nightclub from 1923 – 1940 and operated during the US Prohibition era with a reputation for catapulting famous careers including Duke Ellington, Lena Horne and many other talented performers to stardom. (There is still a "Cotton Club" located in New York)

On Sunday 21 June the Sunshine Coast Jazz Club are proud to host an afternoon of entertainment for all jazz lovers at the Caloundra Power Boat Club when it presents the Sweet Thunder Jazz Orchestra - when it will perform all the great jazz favourites from that era - the theme for the event is "Return To The Cotton Club" Sweet Thunder is a 13 piece Jazz Orchestra based on the Gold Coast. Band Leader Rick Best's "Sweet Thunder" (named from the classic Ellington/Strayhorn album "Such Sweet Thunder") draws heavily on music from this era with some well known and some not so well- known arrangements as well as works by Benny Carter, Gerry Mulligan, Count Basie, Quincy Jones, John Clayton and others.
