Our guest speaker will be Robyn Cook an avid organic gardener for over 15 years and, for the past five years, fortunate to make a living out of this passion.
Robyn is the garden teacher and program co-ordinator for the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program at Chevallum State School, and home and school garden specialist for Nutri-Tech Solutions.
Robyn would like to share her experiences of working with children, teachers and volunteers, showing how the program fits into the school curriculum, as well as allowing all participants to enjoy the relative peace of the garden and the nourishment it provides our souls as well as our bodies.
She will tell us about how it all starts and ends in the soil, describing "The Soil Foodweb" and how to support it through worm farms, composting, microbe brewing and avoiding dangerous inputs.
For the past five years Robyn has been a regular presenter on ABC Coast FM talking about organic gardens and how to be frugal. Robyn presents soil nutrition talks and workshops and offers tours of the gardens at Chevallum State School.
With her partner John, Robyn provides publishing services to people who wish to self publish. Robyn edited and co-published Eat Your Garden with Leonie Shanahan and Outdoor Classrooms with Janet Millington and Carolyn Nuttall. Both books are sure to inspire anyone with an interest in gardens and schools.
Robyn's current project is editing a book on Social Enterprise to be published by the Community Living Association in Brisbane.
