Rock your body and feed your soul with OKA @ The J
Get ready to rock your body and feed your soul as OKA plays The J on Saturday May 12. Blending the fluid sounds of the 'slide didge' with turntables, percussion, flute and vocals, OKA create a distinctive fusion of cultures.
OKA are DidgeriStu, Matt Aitchison and Chris Lane. Matt's passion for drumming and nightclub beats pulsates through every tune, while Chris's Eastern travels have an obvious influence on his flute, sax and slide guitar. Stu brings to the mix his Islander Aboriginal culture and the Yidaki or Didgeridoo, as well as his love of decks and beats.
OKA have been performing together since 2002 with successful tours of festivals and dance venues across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Canada. The band's independent albums, "One Talk" and "Elements" continue to sell thousands of copies. 'Music Makes Me Happy', OKA's latest album has been on high rotation on Triple J, Radio National and Rage and has lead to country-wide acclaim.
Following their emotionally charged show in February at The J, the boys decided on the spot to make The J their home on the Sunshine Coast and couldn't wait to return and get the locals dancing again.
Proudly supporting OKA is South-Korean born and WA based Saritah. Her music ranges from soul through folk to roots and world beats and she performs with a sincere, raw energy. Saritah was nominated for Best Blues N Roots Artist in the 2006 WAMI awards and has toured extensively, supporting such artists as The John Butler Trio, The Cat Empire, Lior, The Beautiful Girls and Ash Grunwald. Her music provides a burst of strong spirit and groove that is bound to inspire listeners.
OKA and Saritah bring their distinctive sounds to The J in Noosa Junction on Saturday May 12. The show starts at 8.00pm, with tickets priced at $15.
A progressive entertainment space, The J Noosa Junction leads the Sunshine Coast in providing a high tech, staging, lighting, sound proof venue offering a vast alternative artistic program.

About the J
Noosa Council is building this Centre for all members of the Noosa community. The Centre will provide a long sought after venue for events, programs and activities designed to reflect a wide range of cultural, artistic, recreational, and educative interests.
Funding for the project has been provided through a State Government grant of $1.587M, a Federal Government grant of $1.2M, with the balance of funds contributed by Noosa Council.
Due for completion by late September /early November 2006, the J will house a 320 seat auditorium with retractable seating, lounge and recreational areas, meeting and workshop areas, a café and a University of the Sunshine Coast satellite campus which will be offering courses for first year business programs and a masters program. In addition, the award winning Noosa Community Radio FM 101.3 will have a new home within the centre with a state-of-the-art studio.
Situated at the corner of Noosa Drive and Grant Street, Noosa Junction, 'The Junction' aka 'The J' was named to reflect it's location and to indicate a convergence of ideas and generations.
While Council will provide day-to-day management of the Centre, staff will work with an Advisory Committee comprised of 10 community members to ensure clear communication and exchange of ideas between Centre management and the community.
