Residents can gain an insight into Rotary at district 9600's annual conference.
As part of the event, themed around Reaching Beyond the Boundaries, a House of Friendship at Caloundra Events Centre will showcase current Rotary projects such as: Polio Plus, an international effort to eradicate polio; Shelterbox, which provides emergency aid for victims of natural and other disasters globally; and Romac (Rotary Oceanic Medical Aid for Children), which organises surgery in Australia for children up to 15 in the region suffering diseases and/or injuries that cannot be treated in their countries.
Visitors will also be able to sit in on talks by guest speakers including
- Professor Michael Good, director of the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, who is on the verge of starting human trials of a malaria vaccine
- Detective Superintendent Maurice Carless, who is in charge of the response to major and organised crime in the north coast region and will address issues facing youth
- Papua New Guinean Minister for Community Development Dame Carol Kidu, who will talk on the challenges facing her country
