Stamped prints

Using basic stamps made from potatoes, foam and other everyday items we will create some amazing pattern-work and also a range of different animals. Children will work collaboratively to develop their stamp-printing technique, a few fun-large items for display – then they can choose their favourite stamps and designs to create an individual artwork to take home.

Monoprinting for kids

A local landscape or a favourite place is the topic for our own mono-printing artworks. Children will work with acrylic paints to paint on a surface then press onto paper to produce one finished print. A second ‘ghost-print’ can also be produced, which will be faded and allow further details to be added, or we can layer a few together to be more experimental! A fun workshop where children’s own painting styles are developed, and new printing techniques and processes are explored.

Monoprinting for teens

Create a painted scene of your choice and explore seeing it in the REVERSE (or perhaps the upside-down!?) when we print the image onto fine-art paper using traditional print-making techniques. Once the process is understood students can create more images of various sizes and subjects – and add further details to the prints if desired with fineliners and other materials. Teens are advised to bring along any images or sketches of inspiration to work from – or be prepared to be spontaneous with any new ideas for subject matter!

Making relief-blocks

Relief textures are fundamental for traditional printing processes. We will explore constructing our own unique print blocks and other stamps for printing, by exploring a wide variety of materials that can be combined for endless creative results. Children will each make at least two stamp-blocks in the time: one to suit a greeting card design, the other to become a repeat print for larger areas. Designs will be printed onto paper and cards.

Large wood-prints, and mixed media

A selection of large, unique timber stamps created by the artist Melinda Saunders will be used by the children to make a mixed-media artwork that combines one or more of the print items with their own painting, illustration and collage work. Layering will be explored in this workshop, as well as different colour combinations and individual choices and meanings in their art.

Teen fabric printing (with wood-blocks and easy-carve materials)

Bring along a t-shirt, or any other flat-fabric items to print on with your own unique designs and style! (Calico bags can be purchased on the day to use if desired). The artists’ unique range of wood-blocks will be used to print with, and teens will also learn to carve their own designs into easy-carve material for their own individual designs. A range of vibrant fabric-ink colours will be available to use and designs can be layered and stamps combined to produce fabulous results. (Items will need to be heat-set by ironing before wearing or using).
