Out of the Shadows . . . Into the light
Working with children and young people who live in a family impacted by mental health issues
To be held at Sunshine Coast TAFE, Lady Musgrave Drive, Mountain Creek, Friday 20th October 2006, 8.45am to 11.45am.
"Out of the Shadows" is a celebration event that will highlight the successes of the Sunshine Coast Koping (SCKoping) Network.
SCKoping supports young people across the Sunshine Coast who live in a family that is impacted by mental health issues.
The SCKoping Network is a collaboration of Government and Non-Government organisations that have been supporting young people since 2002 through support groups, peer support activities and an annual camp.
Sharon Thomasson Project Officer for the SCKoping Network said "the event will provide the opportunity to raise community awareness and to showcase organisations and programs that support young people and their families."
Well known guest speaker and Sunshine Coast identity, Rob Brough will be sharing his experiences and insights from his own community involvement with young people.
A key goal for the SCKoping Network is to promote community awareness around the issues confronting young people living in a family system that is impacted by mental health issues.
"This event gives us the opportunity to acknowledge the South East Quilters Association who have donated $10,000 towards the SCKoping Networks 2006 Getaway Camp and Peer Support programs" said Ms Thomasson.
Anyone who would like to attend this event, or contribute towards the SCKoping Network Programs can contact Project Officer, Sharon Thomasson at the Maroochydore Child and Youth Mental Health Service on 5409 9111.
