Artists share skills at Mary Valley workshops

At the Mary Valley Art Festival this year you can learn art techniques as well as admire the exhibition.

Former winners at the festival, artists Glenis Gray and Pat Cale, will host two workshops during the exhibition in Imbil in the Mary Valley from July 3-6.

The wonders of eco printing and demonstration drawing techniques are on offer for budding artists.

Imbil artist Pat Cale kicks off with the "Seeing is Believing" workshop on Friday July 4 from 9am-12 noon at the Imbil RSL Hall.

Pat was born in the United Kingdom and lived in the Sudan in her early years before returning to study in England.

She completed a National Diploma of Design (Painting) from 1960-64 which encompassed life drawing, printmaking, sculpture, art history, and painting.

Emigrating to Australia in 1965, although continually painting along with family duties, she was only able to commence seriously exhibiting in 1989.

Pat uses every experience in as the colour she brings to her palette.

"I live my work, and cannot imagine waking up in the morning and not going to the easel," she said.

Glenis Gray also draws on overseas experiences in South America and south-east Asia to bring colours and exuberance to her mixed media work, while her latest works point, in part, to life in Liverpool in the early '70s. She mixed literary and art skills to form a career in educational publishing prior to enrolling at university in 1988.

After living in the Philippines, she returned to Australia and committed to further professional tuition and study - evolving her own style of work while living and working on the beautiful and inspiring Sunshine Coast.

She will share printing techniques using plant extracts in the "Introduction to Eco-printing" workshop on Saturday July 5 at the Imbil RSL Hall from 9.30am-1.30pm.
