Over three days, Caloundra Regional Gallery's foyer will be alive with free activities for children of all ages. Each day will feature a new activity created and facilitated by artsworker Samantha Relihan and inspired from the current exhibtion Close enough: Young Queensland artists featuring works by Sam Cranstoun, Dale Harding, Alice Lang and Tyza Stewart.
Sense of self: Drawing activity
Tuesday 4 April, 10.00 am – 12.30 pm & 1.30 pm – 4.00 pm
A creative drawing experience inspired by Tyza Stewart's self portrait series which helps children to discover more about themselves and their personal moods.
Works such as So bored and Fringe option explore the many aspects of ourselves, our mood, our personality. Touching on such themes, children and students can consider the many aspects of a person and identify different sides they have within themselves. In the workshop, children can draw themselves to express three personal moods.
Create your own personalised friendship bracelet
Wednesday 5 April, 10.00 am – 12.30 pm & 1.30 pm – 4.00 pm
Inspired by Alice Lang's Epic Fail friendship bracelet installation, children will be encouraged to create their own personalised friendship bracelets whilst reflecting on the friendships that are important to them.
Connecting to Lang's commentary on social issues with Gen X and Y and social engagement, children will be invited to reflect on the friendships they have in their lives and the significance of engaging in a bonding activity. With the materials provided, children can make their own friendship bracelets, personalising and individualising them for friends and later exchanging them as a symbol of everlasting friendship.
Time capsule: Drawing / collage workshop
Thursday 6 April, 10.00 am – 12.30 pm & 1.30 pm – 4.00 pm
Now and the future is the theme that will inspire children to express themselves by creating a pictorial time capsule using drawings and collage.
Reflecting on their present self and imagining themselves in the future, children will be invited to create a pictorial time capsule using drawings and magazine clippings. The process will allow children to reflect on their current interests, trends, social media, identity and imagining what their future self will think if they saw this. Some images will be in black in white (connecting to Cranstoun's style) which can be collaged and integrated with hand drawn pictures.
