moon, marriage and a musical birthday party
Serenading the Moon

When it comes to celebrating your birthday, there's nothing better than spending it with friends, with great music in a great place.  The latest stellar artist to hit the Coast,  Pascal Rogé will be spending his birthday on Sunday 6th April performing in 'Serenading the Moon', the latest concert presented by Noosa Music Society and Cello Dreaming.  "To spend my birthday performing with a friend on stage, with music I love is a gift of the heart" says Pascal.  As an international concert pianist, Pascal Rogé is used to the rigours of travel and sees this concert as a chance to unwind in a beautiful part of the world.  He appears courtesy of The Queensland Orchestra with Sunshine Coast's star of the cello, Louise King.  "To have a chance to play French music with an expert is something truly magical and an incredible experience" says Louise.  You will hear sublime music by romantic composers for cello and piano inspired by the moon, sunken cathedrals, street entertainers, mime and marriage. If you are looking for blissful inspiration or moments of peaceful revelation after a hard week at work, then you've found your latest treat.  Starting at 7:30pm, this one-off concert is a perfect time for a spot of guilt-free, cultural indulgence.  'Serenading the Moon' promises that something special for everyone - lush melody, moments of passion and tranquil serenity and tickets include complimentary refreshments at interval.  You will be transported to heaven as you listen to music by Debussy, Ravel and Franck.  Imagine how you'd feel being part of this one-off Noosa performance that promises to touch your heart, draw you into the quirky world of mime and reveal French culture at it's most impressionistic and playful.

Pianist Pascal Rogé - an exclusive DECCA recording artist, enjoys an enviable reputation for being the world's expert in French music for piano and has won many prestigious awards including two GRAMOPHONE AWARDS, a Grand Prix du Disque and an Edison award for his interpretations of the Ravel and Saint-Saëns concertos.  He has performed in almost every major concert hall in the world. Some of the orchestras he has appeared with include the Philadelphia Orchestra, Montreal Symphony, l'Orchestre de Paris, l'Orchestre National de Radio France, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, l'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande Geneva, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and all the major London orchestras.  He appears regularly in the United States, is a frequent guest artist in Latin America, Mexico, Australia and especially in Japan.  For this Noosa concert he will partner Louise King in sonatas by Debussy and Frank and exquisite miniatures by Franck and Debussy.  Louise's versatile playing has been likened to Yo Yo Ma's and her sound to that of Jacqueline du Prés and "exudes a vigorous artistry that surely appeals to a younger generation of music lovers" - The Australian.

Brisbane based mime artist Ben Cornfoot who specialises in commedia dell'arte is bringing to life the story of Pierrot Lunaire in the Debussy Sonata, lovingly choreographed by Tony Kishawi of Lightwire Productions.  Exquisite miniatures by Ravel and Debussy will conjure up a dream-like state, make your toes tap to the hypnotic dance rhythms of Spain and to finish the first half, Pascal will perform Debussy's well loved Preludes for solo piano.  The grand, symphonic proportioned sonata by Franck brings the program to a stirring close.  "The Franck probably uses every note available on both instruments and at times you feel you are about to break either your fingers or your cello to play it!" says Louise.  It was written as a wedding present for the great Belgian violinist Eugene Ysaye.
