Uniforms worn by Leonard Teale in the 1977 ABC TV series Seven Little Australians will be part of the foyer display during the Independent Theatre at Eumundi season of the iconic Australian story.
The play, based on the novel by Ethel Turner, is set in the late 1800s and tells the story of a large family, husband and wife and seven children, trying to make ends meet, on an army captain’s pay. It paves the way for all subsequent generation gap stories.
In many ways it parallels Ethel Turner’s own family story. It’s interesting to note that this much loved Australian tale has never been out of print since its September publication in 1884 and that the Indee season will mark its 118 years.
Luke Lanham is in the role of Captain Woolcot, with Jessica Caire as his young wife Esther, Chelsea Wallis as author-narrator, Ethel Turner and Keith Souter as Colonel Bryant and Mr Gillet. The young brothers and sisters are played by members of The Indee Young Players.
Performances of Seven Little Australians will be 7.30pm Friday and Saturday September 28th, 29th and Friday, Saturday October 5th, 6th. There will be two Sunday matinees, 2pm September 30th and 5pm October 7th.
