Sign on for softball – all ages, new and experienced players welcome

New and experienced softball players from 4 years to adults are invited to sign on for the coming Noosa softball season this Saturday 22 September at the club grounds in Tewantin.

The summer season starts on 13 October, with softball played at the Noosa fields every Saturday for beginner to advanced male and female players.

Noosa District Softball Association president Richard Wakeham said new and returning players of all playing abilities are welcome to join in.

“Little League for boys and girls aged from 4 to 10 years is a fun and safe place for them to learn basic ball and batting skills, or improve the skills they already have,” Richard said. “There’s mixed boys and girls competition for Under 13s, 15s and 17s, and seniors play social men’s and women’s matches.

“Softball is a wonderful non-contact team sport that teaches great skills and can lead to life-long friendships.”

Noosa’s three softball clubs, Dodgers, Slammers and Redsox provide mid-week training for beginners to advanced players. Team shirts and paying equipment are provided.

“We’d love to see new players of all ages come along, or anyone who’s played softball before,” Richard said. “Parents who played softball when they were a kid can bring their kids along to start playing.”

Richard said several Noosa softballers have gone on to represent Sunshine Coast, Queensland and Australia.

“We’re also excited to be hosting some of Queensland’s best players at the Under 19 Men’s Softball State Championships from5-7 October,” Richard said.

“We’ll have some great new facilities this season, thanks to a State Government grant which will provide improved access for people with a disability, so we’re looking forward to welcoming even more families, players, officials and spectators to our grounds.”
