Candidates for the seat of Fisher will attempt to woo voters at the SDDCA’s annual general meeting on Wednesday 28 August, just ten days before the federal election.
They will face the meeting to present their party’s policies and funding commitments for the upgrade of the Bruce Highway (Caloundra-Sippy Downs). The state government has finalised the design for the upgrade, which will ultimately see the highway expanded to six lanes and new interchanges at Caloundra and Sippy Downs, but it is dependent on federal government support and funding. Candidates will also have the opportunity to comment on other issues relevant to the Sippy Downs area.
Speaking at the meeting will be: Mal Brough (LNP) Garry Claridge (Greens) Bill Gissane (ALP) Mark Maguire (Independent) Mark Meldon (Katter’s Australian Party) Tony Moore (Family First) Bill Schoch (Palmer United Party) Hon Peter Slipper MP (Independent) Jarreau Terry (Independent) In addition to the federal candidates, speakers at the meeting will be Member for Kawana, Hon Jarrod Bleijie, Cr Christian Dickson and Coralie Nichols, Executive Director, Community Services, Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
An update will be given on the impact on the local community of the introduction of paid parking at the University of the Sunshine Coast. All are welcome to attend the meeting, which also marks the SDDCA’s 10th anniversary. Meeting updates will be displayed on the Sippy Downs & District Community Association Facebook page.
