Opening Night Gala Performance
The Noosa Longweekend is proud to present two of the world's greatest guitarists live in concert as the opening act for 2009.
The Grigoryan brothers - Slava and Leonard, whose complete mastery of the guitar has dazzled the music world will enthral opening night audiences in a once-only performance.
Experience for yourself what music critics and audiences around the globe have hailed as unforgettable, overpoweringly evocative and deeply moving.
As a major prizewinner at the Tokyo International Classical Guitar Competition, Slava signed with the Sony Classical Label in 1995 and has since released six solo albums and many collaborative recordings. At the age of 18, his first tour was with guitar legends Paco Pena and Leo Kottke.
Since then he has performed as a soloist at international festivals across the globe and appeared with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic, BBC Concert Orchestra and taken many tours with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and all of the Australian Symphony Orchestras.
Leonard began studying the guitar with his father at the age of four and in 2001, was the only guest artist on Slava's ARIA award winning album, Sonatas and Fantasies. The following year they released their first duo album, Play which was also nominated for an ARIA. Subsequent ABC Classics recordings include Rodrigo Guitar Concertos with the Queensland Orchestra and Impressions.
Leonard has also astonished audiences at international festivals and has been a soloist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Queensland Orchestra, the Academy of Melbourne, and the Melbourne Musicians chamber orchestra. A master of both the classical and jazz genres, Leonard joined the ARIA award winning group 'Saffire' in 2005.
