Since the former Newman Government watered down the laws to stop massive tree clearing in Queensland, our Great Barrier Reef has suffered. There has been a huge spike in broadscale tree clearing, and a third of this was carried out in the catchment of the Great Barrier Reef.
The broadscale clearing of trees can lead to serious erosion. Muddy waters flow into the Great Barrier Reef, smothering corals and seagrass meadows, which are important feeding grounds for turtles and dugong.
That's why the Queensland Government has introduced a bill to Parliament to restore the laws to stop broadscale tree clearing! The bill is expected to be debated this Wednesday 17 August.
The vote will be close, so it's crucial we show all of our MPs we want them to restore stronger tree clearing laws, for the sake of the Reef.
Please join us for a snap rally outside Queensland Parliament to show your support!
Our turtles and dugongs are counting on us. Please join us at the rally!
Hope to see you there,
