Sound Feast is a fantastic free musical event at The J in Noosa Junction and it’s back on Friday 16th of August from 6pm. No need to book, just turn up on the night and enjoy this unique community event.
Performing at Sound Feast for the first time is singer, string plucker and writer, Craig Madden. Just back from Nashville, Craig has more than twenty years’ experience touring and gigging on Australia’s East Coast. He is a trained actor, published author and sustainable home builder who after years of gigging the major cities has returned to the Sunshine Coast, where his career as a young blues guitarist began. Craig’s voice and lyrics ring with truth, soul and experience, whilst his pumping rhythmic guitar style growls underneath, at times melodic and sweet, at others blue and intense.
Van Larkins, recently returned from his USA tour, is warmly welcomed back to Sound Feast. Van transforms what we traditionally consider a classical guitar style with musical influences like electronic, psych trance and 70s funk. "I experiment and use every possible part of my acoustic guitar to make music. It could be bending the neck to make that 'tremolo' sound or pushing my elbow against the soundboard to create wah wah, while wiggling the capo for a whammy bar effect!" says Van.
Playing the blues is never as simple as it seems. It’s a balancing act between virtuosity and feel, rawness and finesse. Many try, but few seem to nail it like Dave Orr. At the heart of his music is that unmistakably raw blues guitar. It’s the sound of late night whiskey bars, of musicians stretching themselves and just letting loose. The Dave Orr Band is on a roll with a new album and a new tour.
And last but not least – Dub Zoo. Dub Zoo are testing the boundaries of musicality with a live improvisational reggae experiment, created in the moment, inspired by the audience. Prepare to be taken on a sonic journey with live dub, psychedelic soundscapes, heavy rhythms and ambient melodies. Featuring multi-instrumentalist Lee Hardisty on keys, sax, flute and kalimba and vocal extraordinaire Lizzie O'Keefe along with the monster rhythm section of Leon Tussie on drums, Brad Wenham on bass and Paddy Kiernan on guitar. Welcome to the zoo, please do feed the animals.
Does that sound like a feast of sound? Yes it does!
